Metropolis Organism growth - Las Vegas 1983 to 2007
I've written a manuscript on the organic nature of cities. In it I make visual, conceptual and logical arguments for the idea that a city is an organism, that is, a living, breathing beast of we humans are necessary but unremarkable organelle. The first post in this blog is the first chapter of the manuscript. What do you think? Is a city an organism?
I am a filmmaker, teacher and non-fiction writer. I am employed as the director of the Audio-Visual Division of the March of Dimes Foundation national headquarters in White Plains, NY and as a filmmaking adjunct professor at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. I have recently completed a half-hour documentary, The Perfect Stranger (see vitaleproductions.com link above), and a non-fiction manuscript, The Metropolis Organism (see link above). I have made a number of independent movies. One of them, Montreal Main, that was made in 1974 was recently picked up for distribution by CVMC.net, one of the biggest distributors of coming of age films.
